A dirty snowball traveling at incredibly high speeds.
* Will a Comet or Asteroid strike Earth?
This is probably an erroneous question. The real question is when will a comet or asteroid strike the Earth. Comets and asteroids have collided with Earth in the past and they will collide with the Earth in the future.
The Earth will probably have several weeks of advanced warning prior to a comet impact. We may have decades of warning on large (>1 km) asteroids and little or no warning for small and medium size asteroids.
* What will happen when a comet or asteroid strikes the Earth?
A disaster so great that it is almost unfathomable. I have included an estimate of the damage.
* Will the government save us?
The government is unable to destroy or deflect a large inbound comet.

This plan was developed based on the impact of the Cretaceous/Tertiary (K/T) size comet or asteroid with Earth. This impact resulted in the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. This impact produced approximately 100 million megatons of TNT equivalent energy. This would correspond to an asteroid approximately 8 miles in diameter, a short period comet 11 miles in diameter, or a long period comet 6 miles in diameter. The plan could be scaled back for
